The Northeast Recycling Council (NERC) and the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) recognize the need to increase domestic end-market demand for domestic recycled resins and consequently have created the NERC-APR Government Recycling Demand Champion Campaign to foster and build the end-use marketplace through government purchasing action.
Collectively and voluntarily, Demand Champions look to improve plastics recycling in North America by committing to increase their use of post-consumer plastic resin (PCR), thus helping to ensure sustainable domestic plastics recycling.
Government Recycling Demand Champions commit to supporting end-market demand by purchasing PCR containing items.
The program has two tiers for participation:
- Champions are full program participants that commit to purchasing products made with post-consumer recycled plastic.
- Advocates intend to purchase products made with post-consumer recycled plastic, but their organization is not ready to act, but will within a year of joining the program.
