Company coordinates plan for all those used water bottles in Flint
When the Flint water crisis began last fall, people from all over the state and country generously began sending thousands of bottles of drinking water to that city to help its residents.
But what became of all those empty plastic water bottles? And what becomes of all those that continue to be sent?
On May 5, Schupan Recycling got to take a bow for figuring that out – especially at the outset of the crisis when disposing of the empty containers was not on anyone else's radar.
The division of Kalamazoo-based industrial recycling company Schupan & Sons Inc. received the Michigan Recycling Coalition's Award of Recycling Excellence in recognition of its efforts in the ongoing Flint water crisis.
Schupan is credited with developing an emergency recycling plan, with the need for that having first been identified by Roger Cargill, special events manager for the company.
